Flotation of mixed salt from sea bittern for the preparation of schonite fettilizer
    (2011-11-25T04:40:51Z) Gadre, G.T.; Udwadia, N.N.
By flotation of the mixed salt obtained by the solar evaporation of marine bittern (containing sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, potassium chloride and magnesium sulphate), employing octadecylamine acetate and highly sulphated castor oil as frothing agents, a mixture of potassium chloride and magnesium sulphate has been obtained which contains the two salt in almost the same ratio as required for the preparation of schonite (k2s4.MgSO4.6h2o), a good fertilizer. the yield of schonite obtained on the basis of potassium chloride content of the mixed salt is of the order of 75-77 per cent.

    (2011-11-24T11:05:28Z) Kappanna, A.N.; Gadre, G.T.; Bhavnagary, H.M.; Joshi, J.M.
The quantities of nine minor constituents in indian sea-water (bhavnagar coast) were reported in an earlier note.1 the present communication deals with the estimation of fourteen minor elements, including the nine reported earlier, and the analytical procedures followed.

    (2011-11-23T11:35:07Z) Kappanna, A.N.; Gadre, G.T.; Bhavnagary, H.M.; Joshi, J.M.
Data on the minor constituents in sea-water are of interest from the viewpoint of chemical oceanography. published work shows that the concentration of minor constituents vary to a constituents from region to region depending upon seasons and the wealth of the organic populations near the coast.

Potassium chloride and magnesium sulphate from sea bittern
    (2011-11-24T06:09:21Z) Gadre, G.T.; Bhavnagary, H.M.
An integrated process for extraction of fertillizer grade potassium chloride and megnesium sulphate (epsom salt) from sea bittern, left afeter the extraction of sodium chloride, has been developed on a semipilot plant scale at the institute. india's potassim chloride require ments of about 50,000 tons a year are almost entirely met by imports at present.

Potassium chloride from sea bittern : part I
    (2011-11-22T09:51:28Z) Gadre, G.T.; Rao, A.V.; Bhavnagary, H.M.
A process has been worked out by which potassium chloride of 97-99 per cent purity can be obtained from the waste bittern of the marine salt industry. the desulphation of the bittern is carried out using commercial calcium chloride.sulphate-free bittern deposits, on concentration, the double salt, KCL.MGCL2.6H2O,from which potassium chloride is recovered by leaching it with cold water or by cooling a supersaturated solotion of the double salt.

    (2011-11-23T04:49:21Z) Gadre, G.T.; Rao, A.V.; Bhavnagary, H.M.
Optimum conditions for(i)separation of magnesium sulphate from sea bittern, (ii) treatment of desulphated bittern for the recovery of potassium chloride and (iii) preparation of potassium sulphate from magnesium sulphate by double decomposition with potassium chloride have been determined.

    Potassium sulphate from sea bitterns
    (2011-11-23T11:08:45Z) Bhavnagary, H.M.; Gadre, G.T.
Sea bittern left over after the recovery of common salt from sea water, at present allowed to go waste is rich in potassium chloride which can be recovered from the bittern by fractional crystallization. the salt as such, without purification, finds use in the preparation of mixed fertilizer. crops like potato, clover, tobacco, beet, etc. do not tolerate chloride and in these cases chloride-free potassium sulphate is employed.
