Corrosion of and its alloys in sea bittern
    (2011-11-24T04:34:13Z) Kappanna, A.N.; Visveswara rao, A.
The corrosion of copper and its alloys in sea bittern of 32' Be has been studied. under steady conditions copper has been found to withstand corrosion better than its alloys. under aeration admiralty brass and phosphor bronze offer better resistance to attack than copper does. the presence of So4 2- in bittern has been shown to exert a retarding infiuence on the corrosion of copper and its alloys.

Electrodeposition of magnesium on a mercury cathod
    (2011-11-24T04:56:54Z) Kappanna, A.N.; Visveswara rao, A.
Cathod discharge potentials in the electrolysis of magnesium cloride and magnesium sulphate indicate the possibility of magnesium deposition on a mercury cathod. experiments carried out under different coditions show that magnesium is deposited. the current efficiency, however, is very low and never exceeds, under the most favourable conditions,7-8%.

    Mineral constituents of suaeda nudiflora
    (2011-11-24T06:32:36Z) Kappanna, A.N.; Sitakara rao, V.
A complete analysis has been made of the plant s.nudiflora for its mineral constituents, including the determination of minor constituents, boron, manganese, copper, zinc, molybdenum and arsenic. the mineral comstituents of the plant account for about 3.8 per cent of the weight of the green plant, 80 per cent of which is water-soluble and can be extracted directly from the plant. the major constituent is sodium chloride which forms 62 per cent of the salts in the plant.

    (2011-11-23T11:35:07Z) Kappanna, A.N.; Gadre, G.T.; Bhavnagary, H.M.; Joshi, J.M.
Data on the minor constituents in sea-water are of interest from the viewpoint of chemical oceanography. published work shows that the concentration of minor constituents vary to a constituents from region to region depending upon seasons and the wealth of the organic populations near the coast.

Salinity, chlorinity & density relations of sea water concentrates
    (2011-11-24T11:35:36Z) Kappanna, A.N.; Sitakara rao, V.
Empirical relationships for chlorinity-salinity, density-chlorinity and density-salinity have been established for sea water concentrates from bhavnagar. salinity has been found to vary linearly with chlorinity up to 14'be. obeying the relation S%.= 1.72 Cl%.+3. both chlorinity and salinity also increase linearly with density up to a density of 1.21 g./ml., the relationships being (Ds-Dw)=0.001387 Cl%.and (Ds-Dw) =0.0007649 S%. respectively, where Ds and Dw are the densities of the concentrate and water at 30'C.

Utilization of mixed salt from marine bittern
    (2011-11-24T10:35:19Z) Kappanna, A.N.; Shukla, B.K.; Mehta, D.J.
A integrated process for utilizing the mixed salt crystallizing out from marin bittern for the production of light basic magnesium carbonate with subsequent recovery of sodium sulphate, sodium chloride and potassium chloride has been described. on an average, 100kg. of the mixed salt are found to yield 20kg.of basic magnesium carbonate, 14kg.of sodium sulphate,20kg. of sodium chloride and 13kg. of potassium chloride. the process offers scope for economic production of the on a commercial scale.
