By flotation of the mixed salt obtained by the solar evaporation of marine bittern (containing sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, potassium chloride and magnesium sulphate), employing octadecylamine acetate and highly sulphated castor oil as frothing agents, a mixture of potassium chloride and magnesium sulphate has been obtained which contains the two salt in almost the same ratio as required for the preparation of schonite (k2s4.MgSO4.6h2o), a good fertilizer. the yield of schonite obtained on the basis of potassium chloride content of the mixed salt is of the order of 75-77 per cent.en_US
