The effect of calcining salem magnesite at 800', 900' , 1100'c.on the properties of magnesium oxide samples produced and on the characteristic of magnesium oxychloride cement prepared from different oxide samples has been studied. it has been observed that the bulk density of calcined product, quantity of gauging magnesium chloride solution required per unit weight and the setting time for the cement are greater when it is prepared with magnesium oxide formed at higher temperatures. the tensile, transverse and compressive strengths are the highest with magnesium oxide produced at 1000'C. the optimum temperature for the calcination of magnesite yielding magnesium oxide best suited for the production of sorel cement is 900'-1000'C.en_US
